Background of the Study
Work ethics play a critical role in shaping employee behavior, productivity, and organizational culture. Organizations that uphold high ethical standards tend to experience increased employee commitment, job satisfaction, and overall performance (Nwachukwu & Hassan, 2024).
Unity Bank, a major player in Nigeria’s banking sector, operates in a highly competitive environment where employee commitment is essential for service delivery and customer satisfaction. However, concerns regarding unethical practices, workplace misconduct, and declining employee motivation have raised questions about the effectiveness of ethical policies in maintaining workforce commitment (Adegbite & Yusuf, 2023).
This study evaluates the relationship between work ethics and employee commitment in Unity Bank, Adamawa State, highlighting the role of ethical standards in employee motivation and performance.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the existence of corporate ethical policies, cases of unethical behavior, low morale, and declining commitment persist in many Nigerian banks, including Unity Bank (Obi & Adeola, 2023). A weak ethical culture can lead to high employee turnover, reduced productivity, and reputational damage.
